The CAT score is valid for one year whereas the GMAT score is valid for a period of five years. For candidates wishing to re-apply the following year, those with a GMAT score have an advantage as the CAT takers would have to take the test again. There is one very noticeable difference between CAT Quant and GMAT Quant, though. The CAT allows you to use a calculator, while the GMAT does not. The same is true on the GMAT. You’ll start to see bigger differences between the tests when you get to the Verbal sections of each exam.
A person with no other commitments (work, college, etc.) can prepare for CAT in 3 months. 1 to 1.5 months to cover the basics and 1.5 to 2 months for mocks and analysis. A person who is working may require at least anywhere between 4 to 6 months depending on the work load.
So there is no age limit for appearing for CAT exam. But there is a certain age limit which the candidate should have completed the age of 20 to appear for the CAT exam. And there is no upper limit for the exam.
Since people who get in IIM are creme la creme in their respective backgrounds, cracking IIM is tougher than cracking IIT. Difficulty level: IIT JEE is much above CAT exam ! Although both require different set of skills, but overall IIT JEE is much above in terms of level of examination.
